Kasuku Jailed for Assaulting His Wife _The Zimbabwe Mail_ Harare – Former ZIFA Vice President Gift Banda, popularly known as Kasuku, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for assaulting his wife, Lorraine Guyo. Regional Magistrate Mrs Renika Dzikiti found Kasuku guilty of domestic violence after a full trial. However, she suspended six months of the sentence on condition that he does not commit a similar offense within the next five years. According to the prosecution led by Miss Audrey Chogumaira, the assault occurred on November 28, 2021, at the couple’s residence in Borrowdale. Kasuku allegedly punched Guyo several times in the face, causing her to sustain serious injuries. Guyo reported the matter to the police, leading to Kasuku’s arrest. In mitigation, Kasuku’s lawyer, Advocate Webster Chinamora, pleaded for leniency, arguing that his client was remorseful for his actions. However, Magistrate Dzikiti ruled that domestic violence was a serious crime that could not be tolerated. She emphasized that violence against women would not be accepted in any form. “It is clear that the accused acted in a manner that was both reckless and abusive,” the Magistrate said. “The sentence imposed should send a strong message that violence against women will not be tolerated.” Kasuku’s conviction and sentence have sparked outrage and condemnation from various quarters.
