Aussie Mum’s Warning After Fantastic Furniture Table ‘Explodes’ A Sydney mother has issued a warning to others after a coffee table she purchased from Fantastic Furniture allegedly exploded, shattering into pieces and sending glass flying. Christine Kalathas-Foutes, a mother of two, claimed that the brushed nickel “Oslo Coffee Table” suddenly shattered without any warning while she was sitting at it on Wednesday evening. “I was just sitting at the table, typing on my laptop, when I heard a loud bang and felt glass flying past my head,” Kalathas-Foutes told media. “I looked down and the table had completely exploded. It was like something out of a movie.” Kalathas-Foutes said she was shocked and terrified, and immediately called her husband, who rushed home. The couple’s two young children were in another room at the time and were unharmed. “It’s unbelievable. I’m so lucky I wasn’t sitting any closer,” Kalathas-Foutes said. “If I had been, I could have been seriously injured.” Fantastic Furniture has confirmed the incident and has offered Kalathas-Foutes a full refund and a replacement table. A spokesperson for the company said they were investigating the cause of the explosion and taking the matter seriously. “We are very concerned about this incident and are working to determine what caused the table to fail,” the spokesperson said. “We are committed to the safety of our customers and will take all necessary steps to prevent this from happening again.” Kalathas-Foutes has urged others to be aware of the potential danger and to be cautious with similar furniture pieces. “I’m sharing my story because I don’t want anyone else to go through this,” she said. “If you have a similar table from Fantastic Furniture, please be careful and consider having it inspected.”A Gold Coast mother is warning others to be wary of a Fantastic Furniture table after her dining table “exploded” into several pieces, sending glass shards flying. Renee Pounder said she and her husband were sitting at the table on Sunday night when they heard a loud bang and felt the table shake. “We looked down and the table had just exploded into a million pieces,” she said. “The noise was deafening and we couldn’t believe what we were seeing. The glass just went everywhere.” Pounder said she and her husband were lucky to escape injury, but her 11-year-old son was not so lucky. “He was sitting at the other end of the table and he got hit by a shard of glass in the leg,” she said. “It wasn’t a deep cut, but it could have been much worse. We’re so lucky that we didn’t get seriously hurt.” Pounder said she immediately contacted Fantastic Furniture, but she was told that the table was not under warranty and that there was nothing they could do. “I’m really disappointed with the way Fantastic Furniture has handled this,” she said. “They’re not taking any responsibility for what happened and they’re not offering any compensation. It’s like they don’t care that their product could have seriously injured someone.” Pounder said she is now warning others to be wary of Fantastic Furniture products. “I don’t want anyone else to go through what we went through,” she said. “If you’re thinking about buying a table from Fantastic Furniture, I would urge you to reconsider. Their products are not safe and they don’t care about their customers.” Fantastic Furniture has been contacted for comment.
