Participating Teams A total of 54 African nations will compete in the qualifying rounds for the 24th edition of AFCON, which is scheduled to be held in Guinea. The qualifying matches will begin in March 2023 and conclude in March 2024. Qualifying Stages The qualifying process will consist of two stages: * Preliminary Round: Twelve teams with the lowest FIFA rankings will participate in a preliminary knockout round to reduce the field to 46 teams. * Group Stage: The remaining 46 teams will be divided into 12 groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the AFCON finals. Pots The teams were seeded into four pots based on their FIFA rankings.
