On Monday, October 24, 2022, police responded to a report of a burglary attempt in the 1000 block of East 22nd Street. The victim told police that she was awakened by a noise and saw a man trying to break into her home. She screamed and the man fled. Later that same day, police responded to a report of another burglary attempt in the 400 block of Walnut Street. The victim told police that he arrived home and found a man trying to break into his back door. The victim confronted the man, who fled. Police were able to identify the suspect in both attempts as 28-year-old Robert Smith. Smith was taken into custody on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. He has been charged with two counts of burglary and one count of criminal mischief. Police are continuing to investigate the rash of reported break-ins in the city.
