King Charles III and Queen Camilla will visit the Channel Islands next month. The visit on July 15 will be the first time a British monarch has visited Jersey since 2005, when Queen Elizabeth II arrived on the island. Island leaders said the visits would show “how special the relationship” is between the Crown and the islands. Jersey Deputy Sheriff Robert MacRae announced the visit to the States Assembly on Tuesday. MacRae said the King and Queen would visit the States Assembly and the Royal Court, with the remainder of the visit focusing primarily on St. Helier, with more details about the day’s events to be shared later. Jersey Lieutenant Governor Jerry Kyd said he was “absolutely delighted” with the visit. In Guernsey, the royal program will include meetings with local politicians and a centenary ceremony honoring Her Majesty, held outdoors on the seafront in St. Peter Port, where islanders can come to watch the event. King Charles and Queen Camilla were in Normandy last week for the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The King and Queen will then go to Crown Pier to learn more about the environment, heritage, and traditions of the island. The showcase will include ongoing work to promote local Guernesiais (or French Guernsey) food production and biodiversity initiatives. The Sheriff of Guernsey, Sir Richard McMahon, said: “It will be a great privilege to welcome Their Majesties to the bailiwick for the first time as King and Queen.” “Their visit this summer shows how special the relationship between the Crown and the islands is.” Part of the visit aims to demonstrate the bailiwick’s commitment to supporting biodiversity, sustainability, and the fight against climate change. Chief Minister Lyndon Trott said: “We look forward to showcasing our initiatives to support those efforts and promote sustainability across a range of sectors.” The States of Guernsey said the King and Queen were unable to go to Alderney and Sark due to time constraints. Representatives from those islands will be present. Guernsey’s Lieutenant Governor, Lieutenant-General Richard Cripwell, said: “We look forward to welcoming representatives from Alderney and Sark to Guernsey on the day of the visit.” King Charles has resumed some public duties while continuing to be treated for cancer. He temporarily paused most of his public engagements after his diagnosis in February, but is now carrying out a full schedule of summer appearances. He is due to deliver the King’s Speech on 17 July as part of the State Opening of Parliament following the UK general election on 4 July.
