NDC Running Mate Expresses Support for Travel but Laments Desperate Departures National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has voiced her support for travel but expressed concern about individuals leaving Ghana out of desperation. In a statement, Professor Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the importance of travel for personal growth, cultural exchange, and economic opportunities. However, she emphasized her sadness and worry when people feel compelled to leave their homeland due to challenging circumstances. “While I respect the individual’s right to travel, it pains me deeply to see Ghanaians forced to seek greener pastures abroad out of desperation,” she said. The NDC running mate attributed desperate emigration to factors such as unemployment, poverty, limited educational and economic opportunities, and political instability. She called on the government to address these underlying issues to create a more sustainable and prosperous society where citizens are not driven to leave. “Our young people deserve a future where they can pursue their dreams in their own country,” Professor Opoku-Agyemang stated. “We must create an environment that fosters job creation, supports entrepreneurship, and invests in education and healthcare.” She also emphasized the need for comprehensive border management policies to address irregular migration and ensure the safety and well-being of both citizens and those seeking asylum in Ghana. Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s remarks underscore the NDC’s commitment to addressing the root causes of desperate emigration and creating a just and equitable society for all Ghanaians.NDC Concerned Over Mass Exodus of YouthNDC Concerned Over Mass Exodus of Youth General News for Saturday, July 6, 2024 Source: www.ghanaweb.com Date: 06-07-2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Presidential Candidate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, has expressed concern over the массовый исход of youth from the country. In an interview on Ghanaweb TV’s Election Desk, Professor Opoku Agyemang acknowledged that while she has no issue with people leaving the country, she was troubled by the fact that most were leaving due to desperation and frustration stemming from the country’s economic challenges. These individuals, she noted, were often undertaking risky journeys without considering the potential consequences. “It is a pity. My office is very close to some embassies and every morning when I drive past them and see them standing in long queues, I feel very sad. What are they offering them instead of standing in line?” Professor Opoku Agyemang said. “I am in favor of people traveling, it is good to see how other people also lead their lives, manage with what they have, build their structures or maintain them. It also opens your mind… But I am sad because it is not that they want to go see how it is done somewhere else, it is not that ‘I studied medicine and I want to see how it is practiced somewhere else so I can add more knowledge’. If it is that ‘I am desperate and that is why they are leaving’, that is where I feel quite sad,” she added. Professor Opoku Agyemang believes that a concerted effort is necessary to address the issues that contribute to mass migration and brain drain in the country. She noted that “travelling is a beautiful thing” but expressed concern about people who have to leave their countries due to difficult circumstances. Professor Opoku-Agyemang made these remarks while speaking to the Ghanaian community in the United States recently. She said that people should be able to travel out of their countries for various reasons, including education, work, and adventure. However, she said that it is heartbreaking to see people leaving their homes because they do not have opportunities in their own countries. “I support people travelling, but I am saddened when they leave out of desperation,” she said. Professor Opoku-Agyemang added that she believes that every Ghanaian should have the opportunity to live a good life in Ghana. “We need to create a country where people do not feel compelled to leave in order to find a better life,” she said. She said that the NDC has a plan to create jobs, improve education, and make healthcare more affordable. “We believe that if we can do these things, we can create a Ghana where people do not have to leave out of desperation,” she said.
