Cedar Falls, Iowa: City Council Approves New Dog ParkCedar Falls, Iowa: City Council Approves New Dog Park The Cedar Falls City Council has unanimously approved the establishment of a new dog park at Prairie Lakes Park. This park has been a long-awaited addition to the community and will provide a designated area where dogs can socialize and exercise off-leash. The dog park will be located on a 1.5-acre site within Prairie Lakes Park. It will feature separate areas for large and small dogs, along with water fountains, seating, and waste disposal stations. “This is a project that has been on our radar for many years,” said Mayor Rob Green. “We’re thrilled to be able to provide this amenity to our residents and their furry friends.” The new dog park is expected to open in the spring of 2023. Construction will begin this fall, with funding provided by the city’s General Fund. “This dog park is going to be a great place for both dogs and their owners to get some exercise and socialize,” said Councilmember Jane Costello. “We’re confident that it will be a popular destination for our community.” The city has worked closely with residents and dog owners to develop the plans for the dog park. A public input meeting was held in June 2022, where residents were able to provide feedback on the design and amenities. “We wanted to make sure that this dog park meets the needs of our community,” said City Manager Doug Kamholz. “We’re grateful to the residents who participated in the public input process and helped us create a space that everyone can enjoy.” The new dog park is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance its parks and recreation amenities. In recent years, the city has also added a splash pad, walking trails, and a new playground to Prairie Lakes Park. “We’re committed to providing our residents with high-quality parks and recreation opportunities,” said Parks and Recreation Director Don Edwards. “This new dog park is a testament to that commitment.”
