The recalled ground beef was packaged in 1-pound packages with a sell-by date of August 25, 2023. The products have the establishment number “EST. 46841” on the label. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the potential presence of E. coli was discovered through routine testing. Most people infected with E. coli recover within a week, but some may develop severe complications. Customers who have purchased the recalled ground beef are urged to return it to their nearest Giant Eagle store for a full refund. Additionally, they are advised to thoroughly clean and disinfect any surfaces that may have come into contact with the recalled product. “The safety of our customers is our top priority,” said a Giant Eagle spokesperson. “We are recalling the affected ground beef immediately and working closely with the FSIS to ensure that all contaminated products are removed from the market.” The FSIS is actively investigating the source of the contamination and is working to prevent future incidents.
