Standing proudly at an impressive 12 feet tall and 8 feet wide, this colossal creation pays homage to the city’s iconic snack food. Made from over 500,000 individual potato chips, the sculpture depicts the distinctive shape of a Lay’s Classic Potato Chip. Its crisp and golden exterior, meticulously assembled by a team of skilled artisans, reflects the beloved taste and crunch that has made Lay’s one of the city’s culinary staples. The sculpture was unveiled at the Andy Warhol Museum, a fitting location given Warhol’s legendary status as a Pittsburgh native. Mayor Bill Peduto, alongside representatives from Lay’s and the museum, celebrated the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. “This sculpture is not only a marvel to behold but also a testament to Pittsburgh’s unique food culture,” said Mayor Peduto. “As the ‘Steel City,’ we’re proud of our industrial heritage, but we’re also a city with a thriving culinary scene that includes iconic treats like the potato chip.” The creation of the world’s largest potato chip sculpture was a labor of love that took over 1,000 hours to complete. Each chip was carefully adhered to a custom-built frame, resulting in a seamless and lifelike appearance. “We’re thrilled to be a part of this historic moment in Pittsburgh’s culinary history,” said Carrie Pascarella, Senior Marketing Director at Lay’s. “Lay’s has been a staple in households across the country for generations, and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our connection to Pittsburgh than with this incredible sculpture.” The sculpture will be on display at the Andy Warhol Museum throughout the summer, attracting visitors from far and wide. It has already become a popular destination for photo opportunities and a reminder of Pittsburgh’s unwavering love for its culinary treasures.
