Acting on a tip, detectives obtained a warrant to search the residence. Upon arrival, they encountered a gruesome scene with evidence suggesting the presence of a dog fighting operation. Multiple dogs, some with visible injuries, were seized from the property. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Manuel Garcia, was arrested. He faces charges of animal cruelty, organized animal fighting, and possession of animals for fighting purposes. “This operation was extremely disturbing,” said Phoenix Police Sergeant Michael Faraino. “These dogs were subjected to unimaginable cruelty and violence, all for the entertainment of their owners.” Authorities believe the dog fighting ring had been operating for an unspecified period. They are currently investigating the extent of the operation and whether there are additional suspects involved. The rescued dogs are receiving medical attention and will be evaluated for adoption once they are deemed healthy enough. The Humane Society of Arizona has stepped in to provide care and rehabilitation for the animals. “Dog fighting is a heinous crime that inflicts unspeakable suffering on innocent creatures,” said Humane Society CEO Maricopa County Julie Sabella. “We commend the Phoenix Police for their swift action in shutting down this operation and rescuing the victims.” The investigation is ongoing, and Phoenix Police urge anyone with information about this case or any other animal fighting activity to contact them.
