At approximately 2:30 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a five-story building located at 200 Main Street. Upon arrival, they found heavy smoke and flames emanating from a third-floor unit. Multiple units and firefighters were immediately deployed to contain the blaze and evacuate residents. One resident, a 65-year-old woman, was rescued from the burning unit by firefighters. She was transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. Firefighters fought the blaze for over two hours, utilizing aerial ladders and hoses to extinguish the flames. By 4:30 a.m., the fire was brought under control. The third-floor unit where the fire originated sustained significant damage. Fire investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the blaze. The remaining residents of the building were evacuated and temporarily housed at a nearby shelter. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to those affected. “This was a challenging fire that required the coordinated efforts of our firefighters and other first responders,” said Columbus Fire Chief Jeffrey Walker. “We are grateful that there were no serious injuries and that the fire was contained to one unit.” The Columbus Fire Department urges residents to follow fire safety guidelines to reduce the risk of a fire in their homes and apartments.
