In January 2022, a player in suburban Cincinnati won a $1.33 billion jackpot, one of the largest lottery prizes in U.S. history. The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302.6 million. The jackpot resets to $20 million after a win. The Ohio Lottery Commission encourages the winner to sign the back of the ticket and contact the commission as soon as possible. The winner has one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prize. “We are thrilled to have another Mega Millions jackpot winner in Ohio,” said Ohio Lottery Director Pat McDonald. “This is a truly life-changing event for the lucky winner.” The winner has the option of receiving the $293 million jackpot as an annuity over 29 years or as a one-time lump sum payment of $162.6 million.
