Investigation Concludes Harry Dunn Died in Traffic Collision

An investigation into the death of Harry Dunn has concluded that he died as a result of a traffic collision. The 19-year-old was killed in August 2019 when his motorcycle was involved in a crash with a car driven by Anne Sacoolas, the wife of a US diplomat. Sacoolas claimed diplomatic immunity and left the UK following the collision. The decision to grant her immunity sparked outrage and led to calls for the UK government to review its approach to diplomatic immunity. The investigation, carried out by Northamptonshire Police, found that Sacoolas was driving on the wrong side of the road at the time of the collision. She was also found to have been using her mobile phone at the time of the crash. The police said that they had passed their findings to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which will decide whether to charge Sacoolas with any offenses. In a statement, Harry Dunn’s parents said that they were “devastated” by the findings of the investigation. They said that they had always believed that Sacoolas was responsible for their son’s death and they were now calling for her to be held accountable. The UK government has said that it will continue to pursue justice for Harry Dunn’s family. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said that he would be “relentless” in seeking “justice for Harry and his family.” Sacoolas has previously expressed her remorse for the collision and said that she would be willing to return to the UK to face charges. However, the US government has said that she will not be extradited. The case has strained relations between the UK and the US. The UK government has said that it will continue to press the US to extradite Sacoolas so that she can face justice.Harry Dunn death: Coroner recommends better driver training for Americans at RAF baseHarry Dunn death: Coroner recommends better driver training for Americans at RAF base

The coroner at the inquest into Harry Dunn’s death has recommended better driver training for Americans at the RAF base near where the 19-year-old died.

Mr Dunn was hit by Anne Sacoolas in August 2019 after she drove his Volvo on the wrong side of the B4031 in Northamptonshire while he was driving a motorbike.

He died in hospital the same day.

The coroner concluded that Mr Dunn died as a result of a road traffic collision and issued three prevention of future death notices.

Two preventive death notices concerned drugs carried by paramedics and overworked ambulance services.

The third notice was sent to the Foreign Office and the Ministry of Defense regarding driver training at RAF Croughton.

Northamptonshire coroner Anne Pember criticized the US government for the lack of training provided to Sacoolas employees before the accident.

Harry Dunn’s family responds

Neither Sacoolas nor representatives of the US embassy attended the inquest, prompting Dunn family spokesman Radd Seiger to say that the US government’s position is that “the lives of British citizens like Harry are ultimately not matter.”

Speaking after the inquest, he said: “It was not enough for them to kill Harry. It was not enough for them to kick Harry’s family in their darkest hour and try to deny and delay the justice they were entitled to.”

“As we have all seen this week, their attitude and approach to keeping their British hosts safe has been exposed and they have positively obstructed the coroner’s inquest and deprived the family of the answers they were entitled to as to why no one has addressed the issue of the security of the citizens of the United Kingdom.”

Seiger also said Labor, if it comes to power, has promised the family a public inquiry into how Sacoolas was able to leave the country with diplomatic immunity after causing Harry’s death.

“We will not let (the US government) get away with this and we look forward to working with the next administration to establish this public inquiry,” he said.

“We were all horrified as a nation to see how the US government treated Harry’s family. This must never happen again.

“The American national anthem ends with ‘land of the free, home of the brave’. They have not shown even an ounce of bravery and prefer to run, hide and obstruct.”

Dunn family ‘totally upset’

Harry’s mother, Charlotte Charles, said she was “totally disgusted” that Sacoolas and representatives from the US embassy did not attend the inquest.

“I think they have further disrespected Harry and the future he could have had,” she said, adding that she feels they have shown “no respect” for her late son or his family.

“We had to fight for three and a half years to even get to the Old Bailey, to get justice,” he said. “And then having to wait another 18 months for our investigation is practically unheard of.

“We are tired, exhausted and, unfortunately, still angry at the United States government for making us wait so long.”

Testimonial statements by Anne Sacoolas

Evidence and statements from two witnesses from Sacoolas were read during the inquest after the US government employee declined the coroner’s invitation to attend in person.

In one of the Sacoolas statements, he apologized for the “tragic mistake” what she did on the day of the accident and said it was something she would live with her “every day for the rest of my life.”

She said that when she left RAF Croughton and turned left, she instinctively moved to the right side of the road because she was “used to driving in America.”

She also told Northamptonshire Police in a voluntary interview two months after the crash that she was a “safe driver” but was “driving like an American and on the American side of the road.”

The 45-year-old said she had not received any training on driving on UK roads after arriving in the country and that after the accident she “hysterically called a motorist” and “begged him to get help”.

“Not a day goes by that Harry is not on my mind, and I am deeply sorry for the pain I have caused,” the statement read.

Responding to the remarks, Mr Seiger said: “We’ve heard most of that before.

“Why the hell isn’t Sacoolas in court to answer questions from the court and the family?”

Sacoolas left Britain 19 days after the crash, after the US State Department asserted diplomatic immunity on his behalf.

Traffic Collision Investigation Concludes

An investigation into the tragic death of Harry Dunn has concluded that the 19-year-old died as a result of a road traffic collision. Dunn was killed in August 2019 when his motorcycle collided with a car driven by Anne Sacoolas, the wife of a U.S. diplomat stationed in the UK. Sacoolas initially claimed diplomatic immunity and left the country, sparking a diplomatic row between the UK and the U.S. The investigation found that Sacoolas was driving on the wrong side of the road at the time of the crash and that Dunn had right of way. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorized charging Sacoolas with causing death by dangerous driving, but she remains in the U.S. and has not been extradited. Dunn’s family has expressed disappointment at the outcome of the investigation, saying that it does not provide them with closure. “We are very disappointed that we have not had the opportunity to face Anne Sacoolas in court,” said Dunn’s mother, Charlotte Charles. “We believe that she should be held accountable for her actions.” The investigation’s findings have raised questions about the status of diplomatic immunity in the UK and the UK government’s commitment to pursuing justice for its citizens.
