Following Nigeria’s unexpected defeat to Benin in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau has stated that the federation is taking steps to address the team’s issues and secure qualification for the tournament. Speaking in a video posted by photojournalist Pooja, Gusau acknowledged the disappointing loss, saying, “It is a very sad moment for Nigerian football, we cannot escape it.” However, he expressed optimism and determination, stating, “The one thing I want to assure you is that we are working tirelessly in collaboration with the minister to come up with some holistic measures that will change the face of the entire system so that we can move forward.” Gusau emphasized that World Cup qualification remains a realistic goal, saying, “Don’t forget that it is still possible, and we are going to achieve it.
