Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Announces Esa-Pekka Salonen as New Music DirectorCincinnati Symphony Orchestra Announces Esa-Pekka Salonen as New Music Director Cincinnati, OH – The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Esa-Pekka Salonen as its next Music Director, effective with the 2024-25 season. Salonen is an internationally renowned conductor, composer, and pianist who has led some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He is also the founder and Artistic Director of the renowned Philharmonia Orchestra of London. “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Esa-Pekka Salonen as our new Music Director,” said CSO Board President, Katie Roughley. “His exceptional artistry, innovative programming, and deep commitment to community engagement make him the ideal leader for our orchestra and our city.” As Music Director, Salonen will lead the CSO in a wide range of concerts, including classical masterpieces, contemporary works, and commissions from new and established composers. He will also lead the orchestra on tours and recordings. Salonen is particularly known for his adventurous programming, which often features interdisciplinary collaborations and explores the intersection of music and other art forms. Langrée will remain with the orchestra as Music Director Emeritus.
