Baltimore Buckles Up for “Potholepalooza”Baltimore Buckles Up for “Potholepalooza” Baltimore is bracing for an onslaught of potholes as winter’s grip loosens and spring approaches, prompting city officials to declare a “Potholepalooza.” With temperatures fluctuating wildly, the city’s aging infrastructure is struggling to cope, resulting in a proliferation of hazardous road craters. “It’s a perfect storm for potholes,” said Mayor Brandon Scott. “We’ve had freezing temperatures, followed by thaw and rain, which seeps into the pavement and expands when it freezes again.” The Department of Transportation (DOT) has deployed crews to address the issue, but the sheer volume of potholes is overwhelming their efforts. As a result, the city is asking residents to report potholes through the 311 app or by calling the DOT hotline. “We need the public’s help to identify and prioritize potholes,” said DOT Director Steve Sharkey. “The more reports we get, the faster we can respond.” The severity of the pothole problem has prompted the city to implement a “Potholepalooza” campaign, which includes increased road repairs and public awareness initiatives. The DOT is working overtime to fill potholes, using a combination of cold patch and hot asphalt. “We’re deploying all available resources to make sure our streets are safe for drivers,” said Scott. “But it’s going to take time, and we ask for patience and understanding.” Residents are urged to exercise caution when driving and to be aware of their surroundings. They should slow down, avoid potholes if possible, and report any hazardous conditions immediately. The city is also exploring long-term solutions to the pothole problem, such as investing in infrastructure improvements and using new technologies to detect and repair potholes more efficiently. “Potholepalooza is a reminder of the need for sustained investment in our infrastructure,” said Scott. “We’re committed to making our roads safer and ensuring that Baltimore remains a livable and vibrant city.”
