ECN Registers 187,171 Voters During the First Week National: The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has announced that it registered a total of 187,171 voters during the first week of the voter registration drive that commenced on 28 February 2023. According to the ECN, the highest number of registrations was recorded in the Khomas Region with 28,223 voters, followed by the Oshana Region with 23,341 voters. The Kavango East Region registered 22,037 voters, while the Erongo Region recorded 18,654 registrations. The ECN has expressed satisfaction with the turnout so far, but has urged eligible voters to take advantage of the remaining time to register. The voter registration drive will continue until 16 March 2023. To register, voters are required to present their Namibian identification documents or passports at any designated registration center. They will then be required to provide biometric information, including a fingerprint and a photograph. We, therefore, encourage all those who have not yet registered to do so before the deadline,” she said. The ECN has also reminded political parties, candidates, and voters to adhere to the Code of Conduct during the registration period. Political parties are prohibited from engaging in any form of campaigning near registration points. Eligible voters are required to present their original Namibian identity document or passport at the registration point. First-time voters and those who have lost or damaged their voter cards are also required to bring along proof of residence.
