Uber Records Link Husband to Murder of Estranged Wife

Kenneth Shea, 37, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of his estranged wife, Elizabeth Shea, in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania. Police were able to connect Shea to the crime using records from his Uber ride home. Elizabeth Shea was found dead in her Cromwell Lane home on April 10, 2024, with slash wounds to her head and neck. Police responded to a welfare check after coworkers reported she failed to show up for work. Upon arrival, they discovered three phones in the toilet and a locked bedroom door. Elizabeth Shea’s body was found inside the room after officers forced their way in. Investigators determined that an air conditioning unit had been pushed inside to allow access through the window. Hard drives from the home’s security cameras had also been discarded in the toilet. Kenneth Shea was initially charged with simple assault based on a previous domestic violence incident at the home. He had been served with a protection from abuse order and evicted from the property. Police focused their investigation on Shea and his travel history on the day of the murder. Uber records showed that he had taken an Uber from a Comfort Inn to a location behind Elizabeth Shea’s residence in the early morning hours of April 10. He was picked up from the same location a few hours later and returned to the hotel. Location records from Shea’s phone also placed him in the area of the Bucks County hotel in the days leading up to the murder and on April 10. Shea was arrested as he left his hotel room on April 10. Investigators found camouflaged pants consistent with those Shea wore upon his return to the hotel, as well as blood stains on the bed. Shea had injuries to his right hand, including cuts to his index finger. In court, Shea apologized to his slain wife and her sons, expressing remorse and a desire to avoid putting the family through a trial. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele called the murder a “tragic case” and extended condolences to Elizabeth Shea’s family. In a shocking turn of events, a 37-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the brutal murder of his wife, 20 years his senior.
