‘Luckily, She Didn’t Have Nightmares’: Daughter Trapped in Bathroom Due to Burst Pipe A seven-year-old girl was left stranded in a bathroom at SingPost Centre on Tuesday morning after a ceiling pipe burst, causing water to flood the area. Her mother, Grace, recounted the harrowing experience. “I was shopping for my daughter’s birthday present when she went to the bathroom,” Grace said. “About 10 minutes later, I heard a loud crashing sound and then water started dripping from the ceiling.” Grace rushed to the bathroom and found it filled with ankle-deep water. Her daughter was trapped inside, unable to get out due to the heavy door. “I was so scared. I tried to open the door but it wouldn’t budge,” said Grace. “I shouted for help, but no one could hear me.” After several minutes of panic, a security guard finally heard Grace’s cries and rushed to their aid. He used a crowbar to force the door open, freeing the trapped girl. “Luckily, she didn’t have nightmares or anything,” said Grace. “She was just very frightened.” Grace said she was disappointed with the response from SingPost Centre management. “They didn’t even apologize or offer any assistance,” she said. “It’s unacceptable.” A SingPost spokesperson said the incident was “regrettable” and that the company is investigating the cause of the burst pipe. The bathroom has been closed for repairs.Gayton McKenzie Takes on Sports, Arts, and Culture MinistryGayton McKenzie Takes on Sports, Arts, and Culture Ministry In a remarkable turn of events, Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader Gayton McKenzie has been appointed Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture by President Cyril Ramaphosa. This move marks a significant shift for McKenzie, who has previously served time in prison for armed robbery. McKenzie’s appointment fills the vacancy left by corruption-accused ANC MP Zizi Kodwa. A Redemptive Arc McKenzie’s journey to the ministry has been extraordinary. After being released from prison in 2003, he founded the PA and has since become a vocal advocate for addressing illegal immigration and crime. McKenzie’s unique experiences and unwavering determination have earned him a level of respect and support among South Africans. Portfolio Ambitions McKenzie had initially expressed his desire for the Police or Home Affairs Ministries, portfolios that align with the PA’s core policies. However, his appointment to Sports, Arts, and Culture is seen as a compromise that satisfies all members of the Declaration of Intent. Working within the GNU Despite his preference for other portfolios, McKenzie has emphasized his commitment to working within the Government of National Unity (GNU). He has pledged to honor the President’s constitutional authority and respect the decisions made by Ramaphosa. Unique Journey to Ministry McKenzie’s story is a testament to the power of redemption and the transformative power of politics. From a life of crime to serving in government, his journey is a reminder of the resilience and determination of the South African people. PA Policies and McKenzie’s Role The PA’s election manifesto included policies such as reinstating the death penalty, promoting religion, and increasing industrialization. While McKenzie will not be responsible for implementing these policies directly, his appointment represents a shift towards addressing issues that resonate with the party’s supporters. Empowering Sports, Arts, and Culture McKenzie has the opportunity to make a significant contribution to South Africa’s sporting, artistic, and cultural landscape. By supporting talented individuals and promoting creativity, he can inspire a new generation of South Africans to pursue their passions and showcase the nation’s rich heritage.A seven-year-old girl was trapped in a bathroom at SingPost Centre for more than an hour due to a burst ceiling pipe, her mother said. The incident happened at around 5pm on Tuesday (June 28), when the girl’s mother, Ms Tan, and her two children were at the shopping mall. Ms Tan said her daughter had gone to the bathroom on the second floor, while she and her son waited outside. After about 15 minutes, her daughter came out of the bathroom and told her that she was locked inside. Ms Tan said she tried to open the door, but it was locked from the inside. She then called for help from a security guard, who also could not open the door. The fire brigade was then called in, and they were able to open the door about an hour after the girl was trapped. “Luckily, she didn’t have nightmares,” Ms Tan said. The girl was not injured, but she was shaken by the experience. Ms Tan said she was angry that the shopping mall did not have any staff on hand to help when her daughter was trapped. “There should have been someone there to help,” she said. A spokesman for SingPost Centre said that the shopping mall is investigating the incident.
