Trindall Reclaims Sharks Jersey, Escapes Further Bans
After a highly publicized incident, Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks prop Toby Trindall has successfully regained his club jersey. The incident had resulted in a two-game suspension for Trindall. The 21-year-old was involved in a scuffle with St. George Illawarra Dragons player Zac Lomax during a pre-season trial match. Video footage showed Trindall punching Lomax, leading to the suspension. However, following a hearing with the National Rugby League (NRL) Judiciary, Trindall’s case was reconsidered. The Judiciary determined that Trindall’s actions were provoked and did not warrant further punishment. As a result, Trindall’s suspension was reduced to two games, which he has already served. The NRL Judiciary also ruled that Trindall would not face any further bans or fines related to the incident. Trindall expressed his relief and gratitude for the decision. “I’m just happy to have the jersey back and get back out there with the team,” he said. “I’ve been working hard and I’m ready to contribute.” Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon welcomed Trindall’s return. “Toby is a great young player and we’re excited to have him back,” said Fitzgibbon. “He made a mistake, but he’s learned from it and we’re confident he’ll be a valuable asset to the team.” The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of sportsmanship and respect in rugby league. While competition is fierce, players must always conduct themselves according to the rules and values of the game.Braydon Trindall Returns to Cronulla Lineup, Escapes Further NRL Ban
Braydon Trindall Returns to Cronulla Lineup, Escapes Further NRL Ban
Braydon Trindall, who recently regained the Cronulla Sharks’ No. 6 jersey, will avoid an additional NRL suspension for driving with drugs and alcohol in his system. Trindall has been named at five-eighth to face the Dolphins on Thursday night, marking his third game since serving a five-match ban for the driving offenses. The Sharks withdrew him from selection in April after he pleaded guilty to mid-range drinking driving and driving with an illicit substance. He was fined $1100 and suspended from driving for three months, in addition to facing a breach notice from the NRL. Trindall was expected to respond to the NRL notice by last week. According to sources, he will be fined along with other punishments. However, he will not be forced to sit out any further games, as the suspension imposed by the NRL has already been accounted for by his five-game hiatus. Daniel Atkinson had impressed in Trindall’s absence, and the pair played together in the halves for the past fortnight. However, with Cronulla at full strength in their halves, coach Craig Fitzgibbon has preferred Trindall over Atkinson at five-eighth. “It’s massive (for him to be back),” hooker Blayke Brailey said of Trindall’s inclusion. Nicho Hynes has emphasized the importance of Trindall’s mental health after his driving charge, stating that getting him back on the field would benefit his well-being. Trindall performed well in the Sharks’ win over Brisbane on Saturday night, and Brailey noted that he seemed happier.
Taylan May’s Penrith Saga Continues
The saga surrounding Penrith Panthers center Taylan May is likely to extend after he met with the board on Tuesday to contest his contract termination. May has received a show-cause notice for several alleged incidents unrelated to his domestic violence charge, which is still being heard in court. The Panthers board is expected to consider May’s future in the coming days before deciding whether to terminate his $600,000-a-year contract, which he signed in March.Former Cronulla Sharks forward Andrew Fifita has avoided further bans and won back his number 13 jersey for the upcoming NRL season. Fifita was facing a potential suspension of up to 10 matches for his role in the club’s salary cap scandal. However, the NRL has ruled that he will not face any further penalties beyond the $300,000 fine and 12-month ban already imposed on the club. The decision means that Fifita will be eligible to play for the Sharks in their season-opening match against the North Queensland Cowboys on March 13. He is expected to start at prop alongside New Zealand international Siosiua Taukeiaho. Fifita’s return is a major boost for the Sharks, who are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2022 campaign. The club finished 12th on the ladder and missed out on the finals for the first time since 2014. Fifita is one of the most experienced and decorated players in the NRL. He has played 233 NRL games and represented Tonga 16 times. He was a member of the Sharks’ premiership-winning team in 2016 and has also won two State of Origin series with New South Wales. The Sharks will be hoping that Fifita can rediscover his best form in 2023 and help the club return to the top of the ladder.
