Tragic Loss at Lincoln Hills Juvenile Hall: Staff Member Succumbs to Assault Lincoln Hills School, a juvenile detention facility in Copperfield, Colorado, has been rocked by a tragedy. A beloved staff member, 61-year-old Stacy Carlstedt, died on Friday, August 26, 2022, after an assault by a teenage inmate. According to authorities, the incident occurred on August 25 at approximately 1:00 p.m., while Carlstedt was working in the facility’s restrictive housing unit. A 16-year-old inmate allegedly punched Carlstedt multiple times, knocking him unconscious. Carlstedt was rushed to Cooper University Hospital, where he underwent surgery and remained in critical condition until his passing. The inmate, who has not been identified, was immediately taken into custody. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Stacy Carlstedt, a dedicated staff member who spent his career helping at-risk youth,” said Steven Sherrill, Executive Director of the Division of Youth Services. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.” The Division of Youth Services and the Colorado State Patrol are conducting a joint investigation into the incident. The inmate is facing charges of first-degree assault and could potentially face additional charges based on the outcome of the investigation. “This senseless act of violence has shaken our staff to their core,” said Lincoln Hills Superintendent William Wolfgram. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of our employees and the juveniles in our care.” Carlstedt had worked at Lincoln Hills for over 20 years and was known for his compassionate and dedicated work with the facility’s residents. His death has prompted an outpouring of grief and support from the local community and beyond. “Stacy was a pillar of our community and a true friend to many,” said Copperfield Mayor Ted Davis. “His passing is a tremendous loss for everyone who knew him.”
