Daniel Lynch: Man Behind Acid Attack on Katie Piper Seeks Bail Daniel Lynch, the man convicted of carrying out an acid attack on television presenter Katie Piper in 2008, has applied for bail ahead of an appeal against his life sentence. Piper, who was 24 at the time of the attack, suffered horrific burns to her face and body after Lynch and his accomplice, Stefan Sylvestre, threw sulfuric acid at her. The attack left her permanently disfigured and requiring multiple surgeries. Lynch was sentenced to two life terms in prison in 2009. A parole board in 2018 ruled that he must serve a minimum of 16 years before being eligible for release. However, Lynch has now applied to the Court of Appeal in London for permission to appeal his sentence. As part of this process, he has also applied for bail pending the outcome of his appeal. A hearing is scheduled to take place at the Court of Appeal on May 17, 2023, to consider Lynch’s request. The presiding judges will weigh the evidence presented by both sides, including the seriousness of Lynch’s crimes and the likelihood of him reoffending. Piper has expressed outrage over Lynch’s bail application. In a statement, she said: “Lynch stole my right to live a normal life. He physically and emotionally scarred me for life. He should never be released from prison.” The Crown Prosecution Service has also opposed Lynch’s bail application, arguing that he poses a serious risk to the public. The Court of Appeal’s decision on Lynch’s bail application is expected to be announced shortly after the hearing. If his application is successful, he will be released from prison while his appeal is being considered. However, if his application is denied, he will remain behind bars.
