A third passenger, 45-year-old Patricia Smith of Medford, was critically injured. Steinig was arrested at the scene and charged with driving while intoxicated. On Thursday, he was arraigned on additional charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and second-degree assault. According to prosecutors, Steinig’s blood alcohol content was 0.24 percent at the time of the crash, three times the legal limit. He allegedly admitted to drinking 18 beers before getting behind the wheel. Steinig pleaded not guilty to the new charges and was ordered held on $500,000 bail. He is due back in court on August 18.
