Complicated Tests for Gem Boys, Bosso and DeMbare – DailyNews Harare Giants Dynamos, CAPS United and Highlanders face tricky tests this weekend as the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) resumes after the international break. Dynamos host PSL returnees ZPC Kariba at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday, while CAPS United travel to Bulawayo to face Chicken Inn. Highlanders will welcome Harare City at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday. ZPC Kariba have started the season brightly, picking up two wins and a draw from their opening three matches, and will provide a stern test for Dynamos. CAPS United, meanwhile, have been inconsistent so far, winning just once in three matches, and will be looking to get back to winning ways against Chicken Inn. Highlanders have also had a mixed start to the season, winning one and losing two of their first three matches. They will be hoping to bounce back from their defeat to Bulawayo Chiefs last time out when they host Harare City. In other matches this weekend, FC Platinum will face Bulawayo Chiefs at Mandava Stadium, while Ngezi Platinum Stars will host Herentals at Baobab Stadium. The matches are expected to be closely contested, with all the teams looking to improve their positions on the league table.

HARARE giants Dynamos, Caps United and Highlanders have been handed a complicated pre-season schedule which will see them undergo Covid-19 tests prior to the new Premier Soccer League season. The three giants are expected to face off during the Chibuku Super Cup semi-finals which have been set for October 24 and 25 but will first have to undergo Covid-19 tests following the return of the PSL early next month. The PSL will resume on November 14 and will run until May 2, 2021, if the Covid-19 situation allows, with the season set to be played under strict adherence to the Sports and Recreation Commission’s (SRC) Covid-19 guidelines. The start of the season will, however, see Dynamos, Caps United and Highlanders having to juggle their preparations for the Chibuku Super Cup as well as the PSL. Dynamos and Caps United will face off at the National Sports Stadium on October 24 while Highlanders will take on Herentals the following day in the other semi-final at Barbourfields Stadium. The winners of the two matches will then meet in the final set for Barbourfields Stadium on October 31. The trio have been handed a boost with the PSL confirming that as part of their preparations for the Chibuku Super Cup, they will undergo Covid-19 tests prior to the matches and will also be accommodated in a similar manner that the Warriors did during their recent 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Zambia. “Teams will be accommodated in a bubble prior to the Chibuku Super Cup semi-finals and will then be allowed to go back home before undergoing another round of Covid-19 tests prior to the start of the new season,” said PSL chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele. Meanwhile, the PSL are set to meet this week to discuss the format of the upcoming season. The 2020 season was abandoned in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic and Ndebele revealed that the league has two possible formats for the upcoming season. “We will meet during the course of this week to discuss the format of the league. We have two options at our disposal. The first one is that we just finish the league without having any play-offs and the other is to have the top four teams after the completion of the league matches play in the play-offs,” Ndebele said.
