Ukrainian Children Face Horrific Abuse in Russia, Taoiseach Says At an international peace summit on Ukraine, Irish Taoiseach Simon Harris expressed shock at a report detailing the horrors faced by Ukrainian children who were kidnapped and taken to Russia. According to the report by the Ukrainian Ombudsman, over 20,000 children have been forcibly removed from Ukraine since the invasion began in 2022. These children have reportedly been interrogated, electrocuted, and tortured in Russian custody. Harris emphasized the need for global awareness and action to address these war crimes against children. “We must not simply raise awareness but take relentless action,” he said. He acknowledged that the world has not done enough to protect these vulnerable children and called for increased efforts. “We must challenge ourselves and ask what more we can do in practical terms,” he said. The Taoiseach expressed concern about reports that Russia plans to organize more “holidays” for Ukrainian children this summer. He urged the international community to resist these plans and ensure the safe return of all kidnapped children.
