Two CVR Employees Accused of Abuse of Power Harare, Zimbabwe – Two Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) employees have been accused of abusing their power by allegedly altering vehicle ownership details in the system without proper authorization. The employees, whose identities have not been disclosed, are said to have been involved in a scheme to change vehicle ownership records for a fee, enabling individuals to sell vehicles that were not legally theirs. According to Newsday Zimbabwe, the alleged abuse of power was discovered by the CVR’s Internal Audit Department, which conducted a forensic investigation into the matter. The investigation reportedly found evidence of unauthorized changes to vehicle ownership records and irregularities in the processing of vehicle transfers. The CVR has since launched an internal investigation and has suspended the two employees involved. The police have also been notified and are currently assisting with the investigation. The CVR’s Registrar-General, Mr. Muzana, has condemned the alleged abuse of power and has vowed to take strict action against anyone found culpable. He emphasized that the CVR has a zero-tolerance policy for corruption and abuse of authority. “We will not hesitate to dismiss any employee found to have engaged in illegal activities. We are committed to maintaining the integrity of our systems and ensuring that the public can trust the CVR,” Mr. Muzana said. Natalie Mazhero (26) and Chiraswa Nyagumbo (44) allegedly registered a vehicle without following proper procedures. They were remanded in custody until July 5, 2024. The complainant in the case is TRC acting undersecretary (licensing section) Elizabeth Machigere. Allegations According to the State, on March 1, 2024, at the CVR Harare warehouse, Mazhero entered a false certificate of competency for Richard Runyararo Mahomva, director of the Ministry of Information, Advertising, and Broadcasting Services. Nyagumbo is alleged to have verified the same certificate in the system, contrary to his duties as a dispatch officer.
