In a bid to curb the rising tension and maintain law and order, the Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has imposed a curfew on eight communities in the Jaman South Municipality. The affected towns include Drobo, Japekrom, Babianiha, Kwasibourkrom, Mpuasu, Basekrom, Kojokesekrom, and Katakyiekrom. The curfew takes effect from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM every day, beginning on Thursday, July 28, 2022. According to the Municipal Chief Executive, Andrews Bediako Sasu, the decision was necessitated by a recent communal clash that resulted in the loss of lives and property. REGSEC has advised residents to cooperate with security personnel and adhere strictly to the curfew restrictions. Anyone caught violating the curfew will face prosecution. The Municipal Security Committee has also appealed to opinion leaders, chiefs, and assembly members in the affected communities to support the efforts of the security agencies in ensuring the safety of residents. Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the communal conflict and identify the perpetrators. The security agencies have assured residents that they will leave no stone unturned in bringing those responsible to justice. Curfew Renewed in Jaman South Municipality

The Minister of the Interior has renewed a curfew in several communities in the Jaman South Municipality of the Brong-Ahafo Region. The curfew, which was imposed following recent disturbances, will run from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am daily starting on Thursday, June 13, 2024. Affected communities include Drobo, Japekrom, Babianiha, Kwasibourkrom, Mpuasu, Basekrom, Kojokesekrom, and Katakyiekrom. The government expresses gratitude to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and people of the area for their efforts in maintaining peace. Citizens are urged to use established mechanisms to resolve conflicts and disputes. Furthermore, a complete ban has been imposed on the carrying of weapons, ammunition, or any offensive weapons in and around the affected communities. Violators will be arrested and prosecuted. During the curfew period, all movement within the affected communities is prohibited between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am. Only security personnel, essential service providers, and persons with emergency medical needs will be exempted. The Ghana Police Service has been tasked with enforcing the curfew and maintaining law and order. The Bono Regional Minister, Justina Owusu Banahene, urged residents to cooperate with security personnel and adhere to the curfew regulations. She also appealed to stakeholders involved in the chieftaincy dispute to prioritize dialogue and find an amicable solution. The Regional Security Council assured the public that it is committed to ensuring the safety and security of the affected communities and will review the curfew as necessary. Residents are advised to stay indoors during the curfew period and to report any suspicious activities to the police.
