The new exhibit, entitled “Hitsville: The Making of Motown,” will delve into the behind-the-scenes story of Motown’s rise to stardom. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the recording studios, rehearsal spaces, and offices where countless chart-topping hits were created. “This new exhibit is an immersive experience that will bring visitors face-to-face with Motown’s history,” said Robin Terry, executive director of the museum. “They’ll see the very spot where songs like ‘My Girl’ and ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours’ were recorded.” The exhibit will feature interactive displays, artifacts, and never-before-seen footage of Motown’s iconic artists, including Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Diana Ross. Visitors will also have the chance to learn about the creative process behind some of the most memorable songs in music history. The expansion is part of a broader effort to revitalize the area surrounding the museum, which is located in Detroit’s historic Black Bottom neighborhood. The project has received support from the city of Detroit, the state of Michigan, and the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation. “Motown Museum is a cultural landmark that represents Detroit’s rich musical heritage,” said Mayor Mike Duggan. “This expansion will enhance the museum’s educational and entertainment offerings, making it a must-visit destination for tourists and music lovers alike.” Construction on the new exhibit is expected to begin in the fall of 2023 and is scheduled to be completed in 2025. Upon completion, the Motown Museum will become one of the largest and most comprehensive music museums in the world.
